  12. THE RINGS movies will be released
  13. soon. From the promotions, trailers,
  14. and photos on the Web, it looks like
  15. the filmmakers are getting it right.
  16. So it is time for us old Tolkien fans
  17. to bone up on the lore.

  20.     'Middle Earth Quiz' is a short
  21. quiz designed to test your knowledge
  22. of Tolkien's Middle Earth. The quiz
  23. has 32 questions and you can add many
  24. more. Educators can adapt it to more
  25. scholarly subject matter. All of the
  26. questions are multiple choice and you
  27. can always exit the program by press-
  28. ing the 'X' key.  Hope you enjoy it!!

  31.  [POSTFACE:] I happened on this great
  32. little quiz on LOADSTAR #2 while
  33. copying back issues for Michel Gaudet.
  34. (That's "MICHAEL" with a French
  35. spelling -- a monicker misshap Mike
  36. has loathed and laughed about his
  37. whole life.)

  39.  A media tie-in is always great. From
  40. what I have seen so far, TLOTR will be
  41. a definitive translation to the
  42. screen. My one hope is that the Holly
  43. Movie Theatre's renovation will be
  44. complete in time for the premier.

  46.  (Yes! Holly, a town of 1,000 souls,
  47. has its own movie theatre. When the
  48. movie house became commercially
  49. unprofitable, the town bought the
  50. building and volunteers handle the
  51. tickets and popcorn. Last year,
  52. someone learned that a theatre in
  53. Pueblo was being completely redone.
  54. Holly was able to get all the used
  55. stuff -- a quartz-halogen "pancake"
  56. projector, surround sound, and new
  57. seats -- at a bargain price. The
  58. renovation has taken much longer than
  59. expected, but on the "Coming Soon"
  60. sign out front, we now have a LOTR
  61. poster. Hope springs eternal!!)

  63.  I read The Trilogy in 1969 in five
  64. days, and have been back to Middle
  65. Earth several times since. It seems
  66. somewhat weird that computers and
  67. "swords and sorcery" have been linked
  68. since the earliest days of personal
  69. computing. Then again, code writers
  70. are the last living "sourcerers" in
  71. the world!

  75. so now! By the way -- does anyone out
  76. there know J. R. R. Tolkien's full
  77. name? No fair looking. And, No -- this
  78. is not a contest. (Too easy to look!)
